Bahgat Sammakia, distinguished professor of mechanical engineering and interim vice president for research, has been selected to receive the 2012 THERMI Award which will be presented to him at the SEMI THERM 2012 Conference in March. The THERMI Award recognizes the recipient’s contributions to critical thermal issues that relate to the performance of semiconductor devices and systems.

Julian G. Shepherd, associate professor of biological sciences, and Richard Andrus, associate professor of environmental studies, have completed a Broome County Natural Spaces Inventory of 200 fragile and unique habitats. The data was compiled over a 10-year period. The inventory will serve as an invaluable tool to protect areas threatened by encroaching development or environmental degradation.

Margaret Decker, clinical lecturer in the Decker School of Nursing, will present an abstract on using simulation to teach motivational interviewing to educate patients on smoking cessation through interprofessional collaboration using brief simulations at a conference in March. The conference, 鈥淪imulation in Healthcare: Where No One has Gone Before鈥 is hosted by Drexel University and will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A book by Professor Emeritus of English Charles A. Carpenter 鈭 The Dramatic Works of Samuel Beckett: A Selective, Classified International Bibliography of Publications About His Plays and Their Conceptual Foundations 鈭 was published by Continuum Press in December 2011. He has finished editing a book which will be published next year by the University of Toronto Press: Bernard Shaw and Gilbert Murray: Selected Correspondence. In 2008 and 2011, he published two articles in the Arthur Miller Journal: 鈥淐arping about Death of a Salesman: Willy鈥檚 Incongruous Suicide and Some Lesser Disparities,鈥 and 鈥淎 Selective, Classified International Bibliography of Publications About the Drama and Fiction of Arthur Miller.鈥
